10.18.2006 BORAT WAS RIGHT

The Kazakhstan government gets really annoyed because Borat, the fictional reporter from Kazakhstan created by comedian Sacha Baron Cohen, portrays the country as backwards and something less than smart.  The kind of country that would spell “bank” wrong on its own money.  Oh, hey, guess what:

The Kazakhstan central bank has misspelled the word “bank” on its new notes, officials said Wednesday.  The bank plans to put the misprinted notes — worth 2,000 tenge ($15) and 5,000-tenge — into circulation in November and then gradually withdraw them to correct the spelling.

It's kinda awesome that the bank had to announce that they misspelled "bank".  It has to be a good feeling knowing that your national bank doesn't really sweat the details.  "10, 20, whatever, it's practically the same".   If this country packed your parachute, you'd pull the rip chord and firewood would come out.  And your only hope would be to aim for someone fat and hope you can bounce.

It’s really not that suprising. The word for bank in Kazakhstani is “Strijikiphonisitackh”

Sacha is the best thing to come along in comedy in a long time. I am yet to find anyone that doesn’t like his Borat stuff or Ali G stuff.

While I’m not a big fan of “Borat”; it really is a kick to an entire nation’s nuts when you actually manage to prove how backward your country really is.

Kazakhstan’s word for bank can’t be that much different than the Russian word for it, which I think is

you are all being a bit harsh, if you go on to read the rest of the article its a phonetical mistake complicated by the use of thier own language rather than russian. im as big a fan of borat as the next guy but give those kazaks a break, sasha is just taking the piss.
