AFI has come out with another one of their worthless lists today, this time counting down a top 10 of every genre (here). The entire list is insane but none more so than the romantic comedy section. "City Lights" got their vote, a movie that came out in 1931, a time when movie comedy consisted mostly of people stepping in a bucket of paint or sitting on a cactus. There’s a scene in the trailer (cleaner copy of that here) when a girl gets picked up by her throat twice and then violently thrown to the ground. Luckily the guy didn’t saw her head off after that, lest the AFI fall completely in love. They also include "Harold and Maude" on the list, a movie about a boyish suicidal loner who falls in love and has sex with an 80-year-old, who then kills herself. HAHAHAwait what?
