McGirk, it’s like real estate. Location, location, location. Scotch is made in Scotland. If it’s not Scottish, it’s not scotch (malted barley). Whiskey is more bastardized. your bourbons and ryes are American, usually southern. Scotch whiskey has not been aged. Most good whiskeys are distilled in casks that were used for scotch. Blended whiskey is garbage.
Oh, and all bourbon comes from Kentucky. It’s the law.
Whiskey is made in the US in Oak barrels that have not previously aged other whiskey’s. Scotch is whiskey aged in oak barrels previously used to age whiskey.. Scotch whiskey usually refers to blended scotch’s from Scotland and Ireland where distilleries trade barrels then mix a multitude of different scotch’s into a single bottle. History has a great 1hr long feature on this and how whiskey caused wars and was used as money in the early US.
