Ladies, Do You Want To Be Objectified Or Not?

By Michael April 18, 2013 @ 3:35 PM

There is a Dove commercial that’s gone viral in which “normal” looking women talk about how looks don’t really matter…except that looks are everything. The ad states that pretty much the most important factor in how a woman is perceived is her appearance but that she shouldn’t be judged by her beauty…except that she needs to look hot to be taken seriously. This speaks to something fucking obnoxious and contradictory in modern feminism. We’re a site that likes to show off the ladies and their hotness. You could accuse us of being sexist, (though we love the ladies more than any feminist). It’s hypocrisy at its worst. Take modern feminist icon Lena Dunham. Ladies have lauded her for showing her dumpy sausage-like body and horrifically unattractive tits in every episode for no reason. In interviews she constantly says that people should stop talking about how she’s naked all the time and then proceeds to talk about how she’s naked all the time. So, can we talk about your looks or not? That’s a rhetorical question, because, trust me, we already are behind your back.

I think that commercial is about as “real” as the Jeff Gordon test-drive one. No way the sketch artist didn’t know what the deal was, and wasn’t intentionally making the 2nd pictures a lot better looking.

It would be a much better commercial if he did nude sketches…..

This doesn’t make any sense. So he drew the people by emotional auras; inflections in a voice? How is that at all proof of anything? He may as well have drawn a potato next to a happy face.

The makers of Dove, Unilever, also make Axe products, which advertise women crawling over men like animals after spraying themselves with cheap chemicals. Dove doesn’t give a shit about women, they care about money.

First of all, why does a forensic sketch artist care if the person he is sketching thinks or feels that they are beautiful?

But they have a point. If a girl has great boobs but an OK face she should definitely appreciate what she has and maybe play that up a bit. Vice versa too.
