That’s right. The great state of Iowa is not only going to allow the legally blind to purchase guns, but also to carry them around in public. In most states in our great nation the ability to see is a prerequisite for legal gun ownership. It does sort of make sense. Unless your Rutger Hauer in that blind sword guy movie, most people can’t sense their enemies movements at a distance without sight. At least, they can’t distinguish between their enemies movements, and, say, a child licking an ice cream cone. But Iowa thinks it’s unfair to prevent someone with a disability the joys of packing heat. Why shouldn’t a guy who has never seen the sunrise not be able to randomly shoot in the general direction of something he wants to kill? As Michael Barber, a blind man registering his gun said,
“When you shoot a gun, you take it out and point and shoot, and I don’t necessarily think eyesight is necessary.”
Guns don’t kill people. But blind dudes with guns sure as fuck will.
