Trump Made a Pass at a HuffPo Columnist Thirty Years Ago and Why That’s Super Important

Either Hillary Clinton’s opposition research team is barking out orders to counter the ‘Bill pawed women’ re-hashed stories, or every single veteran female reporter on the East Coast is coincidentally writing a survivor’s tale of how Donald Trump once made a pass at them in the 80’s. Long time New York Times columnist and now downgraded Huffington Post opinion writer Lisa Belkin penned a feature piece about how Trump hit on her thirty years ago at a social event and why it matters as to his Presidential worthiness.

In the early months of 1987, I was a 26-year-old reporter at the New York Times and I went to a party at the newly opened Wollman Rink in Central Park. The rink had been rebuilt with great fanfare by Trump, who, remarkably, accomplished in four months what the city had been trying to do for nine years.

I had interviewed Trump once for an article and was somehow invited to this event, which I attended with my now husband. I introduced him to Trump, we all chatted briefly, and then Bruce went off to get some hot chocolate or somesuch. After he’d walked away, Trump said there would be an even better afterparty and I was welcome to join him, but only if I came alone.

Oh, god, no, Bruce went for the cocoa! Belkin notes the “indisputable fact” that Trump objectifies women. Everything is an indisputable fact when you publish it without rebuttal or comment.

Belkin goes on to explain that Trump is given a pass because he heavily promotes women in his company and because he verbally degrades women rather than physically. What Belkin means by verbal degradation is ‘Why don’t you ditch your lame boyfriend and come hang with me?’ Which is only a remarkably successful and common come-on for eons of male-female courtship. If it works, you have a wild weekend in a suite at the Plaza. If it doesn’t, it’s tantamount to rape. Under these guidelines, no children will ever be produced again. Unless there happens to be a massive bio-med project underway that allows women to create children without male partners? Wait, what?

There would seem to be a million and one valid reasons to dislike Trump. An unmarried playboy hitting on chicks rises above highly questionable protectionist trade policies? You’re too smart to be saying that. So you must be getting paid. Don’t sell out the cause, Belkin. You wrote Show Me a Hero. Super fucking boring, but highly legitimate. Reach back deep and find that little bit of journalist still within you. Trump would probably still fuck it if you apologized.
