Hollywood’s Dude Of The Hour Has A Rape Problem

Hollywood needs a new black guy, and that guy is supposed to be Nate Parker. Not only is he somewhat of a social justice blowhard, he made a movie about Nat Turner’s slave revolt. Major studios lined up to purchase the film because they need some fresh material for their holiday diversity packets. Their disingenuous plan was going along swimmingly until it was discovered that Parker and his best friend Jean Celestin, who is also the film’s co-writer, were charged with rape while at Penn State. Really, you couldn’t find one minority with a clean record? Parker was acquitted of the charges and Celestin was found guilty before being granted a new trial and having the case dismissed because back then rape was actually a 101 at Penn State. And a full ride if you caught Sandusky in the showers and you kept mum.

Nonetheless the details of the case are extremely rapey and the victim killed herself a while back. I’m all about social causes but even if this movie ends racism you’re barely breaking even. Parker to his credit hasn’t been shy about discussing the case because if we’ve learned one thing from Woody Allen and Polanski it’s that you can either be black or a rapist but not both. His repentance does seem like it’s gleaned directly from half-witted segments on The View:

“The fact we are making moves and taking action to protect women on campuses and off campuses, and educating men and persecuting them when things come up… I want women to stand up, to speak out when they feel violated, in every degree, as I prepare to take my own daughter to college.”

Yeah since you got off let’s take these fuckers to task. Bet you were singing a different tune when you and your two buddies fucked a chick who was foaming at the mouth. What a conundrum. Bottom line is if this movie is any good all will be forgiven. If it sucks, and there’s a high likelihood, Parker will become a whipping boy for the campus rape cause. Only time will tell. In the meantime he’ll gladly carry your mattress to Cannes.
