Little Mix Don’t Mind the Bollocks

October 18, 2016 | celebrity | Lex Jurgen | 0 Comments

Little Mix is a tightly cast X-Factor group formed in order to give Simon Cowell a boner and earn themselves a recording contract. It worked. Much to the chagrin of less obviously comely girls with amazing voices waiting for Adele to pass so they can take that one spot.

Former winners and now worldwide sensations to middle school girls, Little Mix returned to the X-Factor stage in tight and revealing clothing that former Spice Girl Mel C would describe as “prostitute wear” and inappropriate for her own daughters to witness. The logical conclusion being that if the Spice Girls called out another group of fake recording artists for being dressed too sexy for their impressionable kids, shit must be bad.

Coleen Nolan, co-host of the equally insufferable British version of The View called Loose Women, defended Little Mix and their revealing outfits because her son is engaged to marry one of the girls. It’s hard to tell if Nolan absolutely believed her own rationalization. Cutaways to the other lonely birds on the show nodding approval indicates we’re supposed to think she did. Wrapped up with a nice round of producer aided applause.

Feminism has numerous holes in its shouted totem, including how to knee-jerk respond to the gross sexualization of entertainment content for young girls, produced by young women. Explaining why Barbie isn’t a neurosurgeon was easier when men born in 1940 ran the show. It’s largely Gen-X women now and they’re still selling tits and eyeliner to tweens by the boatload. It could be because that’s where the easy money is, or it could be another explanation nobody has been able to yet make up and pretend might be true.

Hypocrisy is the new genius. Let Little Mix be free. You take away the bikinis and the Spandex and lady of the evening Maybelline applications and you have four more unemployed Millennials. Ask yourself what the world needs now more than ever. I bet you don’t come up with more part-time baristas.
