James Woods Tried To Bang 16-Year-Old Amber Tamblyn

A new Twitter confession from superstar Amber Tamblyn is just the latest development in a prissy online bitch brawl between Armie Hammer and James Woods over Woods’ comments regarding Hammer’s role in Call Me By Your Name. Hammer plays a gay twenty-four-year-old graduate student who falls for a seventeen-year-old twink’s holes in the flick, directed by Luca Guadagnino. Someone named Chad Felix Greene tweeted in opposition of the film’s characters’ age disparity:

24 year old man. 17 year old boy. Stop.

Woods retweeted Greene, adding:

As they quietly chip away the last barriers of decency. #NAMBLA

To which Hammer commented:

Didn’t you date a 19 year old when you were 60……?

To which Tamblyn commented:

James Woods tried to pick me and my friend up at a restaurant once. He wanted to take us to Vegas. “I’m 16” I said. “Even better” he said.

Woods being a little statutory rapey isn’t the biggest shocker on the planet. I’m more surprised that Tamblyn’s career is working out well enough to get 29K favs on her comment. Good on you Amber. An on screen hookup between a seventeen-year-old and a twenty-four-year-old isn’t necessarily a revelation. Especially when you think of silver screen classics like Manhattan, which depicts Woody Allen’s forty-something character forking Mariel Hemingway’s fourteen-year-old character. The famous line “That’s what I love about these high school girls, man. I get older, they stay the same age” from Dazed and Confused is considered hilarious bordering on endearing. Hollywood’s proud tradition of kid banging didn’t start with Call Me By Your Name.

In terms of the accusations against Woods, men over a certain age grew up in a time when you could ask for a booster seat for your date and no one would bat an eye. The waiter chirps with a wink: “Isn’t it past your bedtime young lady?” Soon that generation will die out, and a new generation of men who brag on message boards that they want to explode on a starlet’s face the day she turns eighteen will reign. A man who was born in 1947 trying to pick up a teenage Amber Tamblyn isn’t shocking. Assuming that she wasn’t so annoying when it happened.
