The Cut Removes Piece After Calling Priyanka Chopra A Sneaky Indian

Liberal magazine The Cut is the go-to place to find out what wisecracking John Mulaney is thinking or what new woke makeup company is creating products exclusively for impoverished mixed-race burn victims. It’s like if Hello Giggles and New York Magazine had a pansexual baby that graduated from NYU and was also mentally handicapped. They recently redacted a very unwoken piece that called newlywed Bollywood actress Priyanka Chopra a “global scam artist” for marrying Nick Jonas. Let’s start with the blurb that’s going viral following The Cut’s decision to take down the article, titled “Is Priyanka Chopra and Nick Jonas’s Love for Real?”:

Nicholas Jonas married into a fraudulent relationship against his will this past Saturday, December the 1st, and I’ll tell you why I think so. All Nick wanted was a possible fling with Hollywood’s latest It Woman, but instead he wound up staring straight at a life sentence with a global scam artist.

I have already reached out to the author, Mariah Smith, to ask for her hand in marriage. The article’s page now simply reads “Upon further editorial review, we found this story did not meet our standards. We’ve removed it and apologize,” but there’s no stopping the proliferation of tweets slamming Smith for her views. Remember you’re only high key woke if you cyberbully someone who you disagree with.

What takes this thing to another level – and might help you understand why people are knee-jerk percieving Smith’s sentiment as racist – is that Smith is a black woman, and black women and Indian women have a history of racial tension. It’s much more multifaceted than I can pretend to understand, especially since I don’t read, but the tension gets down to rivaling beauty standards, and even the fact that Indian women’s hair is used for most wigs worn by black women. Here’s a documentary.

What people aren’t taking into account is that Smith has a history of writing up button-pushing takes on celebrity gossip, regardless of the celeb’s race. Provocation is her goal. (With that said, she really does seem to genuinely despise Chopra – who married Jonas during a gaudy as hell ceremony over this past weekend. Smith tweeted on Monday “Where is the running list of every single brand Nick and Priyanka have sponsoring this wedding nonsense?”) People also aren’t taking into account the fact that Nick Jonas is a homosexual. Or the fact that the marriage of a glamorous statuesque actress to a four-foot-tall Mouseketeer knockoff is just plain weird. Or the fact that Priyanka Chopra is a manipulative Indian swooping in to take advantage of an innocent white boy like a dirty old Jew. Did I do it? Am I provocative too? Love me.
