DJ AM was laid to rest yesterday at Hillside Memorial Park in Los Angeles. A small private funeral service was held for close friends and family, with Travis Barker the only celebrity on hand. There was someone I thought was Scott Caan but now I can’t tell. I like to call him “Not Caan”.
I didn’t see any pictures of Nicole Richie, who dated AM for two years and they were even engaged before breaking up in 2006. But just because she wasn’t pictured doesn’t mean she wasn’t there. Wait, no. Actually that’s exactly what it means. That’s what pictures do. They chronicle events and record images during those events. So despite this story in the Enquirer, she can’t be too broken up.
(She) took the news of his death so hard that her pals feared she was going into premature labor … her emotional reaction after he died made Joel wonder if Nicole had been hiding deep feelings for Adam, said a source.
“It ended up in a big fight, with Joel demanding, ‘Were you still in love with him?’
“She broke down, cried uncontrollably and thought that she was having contractions,” said the source. “She was devastated to think that Adam’s life came to such a terrible end after his years struggling to stay sober.”
Or maybe she was crying out of guilt because she did it. We should probably arrest and execute her just in case. If later on we find out she didn’t do it, hey, no harm done. She sucked anyway so who cares.
OCEANS ELEVENY UPDATE - okay so that is Scott Caan.
On September 20th, DJ AM, Blink 182 drummer Travis Barker and four others were in a Learjet that crashed shortly after takeoff, killing all but AM and Barker. On February 12th, Continental flight 3407 crashed on its way from New Jersey to Buffalo, killing all 49 people on board and one person on the ground. Oh hey guess what.
DJ AM, real name Adam Goldberg, was booked on the (Continental) flight but canceled and drove instead, after having a bad feeling about the flight. AM says his flying days are over, and from now on only gigs that he can drive to will be on his schedule.
I want to mention that his miraculous survival got compared to Final Destination on Tyler (here), because it's clear now that Death is out to get him. Am I a powerful psychic, using his guides in the spirit world to help those who need it here? It would seem I am, my friends. It would seem I am.
Following his August 20th plane crash that killed four others and left Travis Barker and DJ AM with third degree burns, Barker is suing Bombardier Inc (the planes manufacturer), Clay Lacy Aviation and Global Exec Aviation (the charter companies), and Goodyear Tire and Rubber (who made the tires), to seek compensation for his "pain and suffering, mental anguish, psychological and emotional distress and disfigurement and pre-impact fear of death and burning". E! says…
"I wouldn't have been in the state I was in if I wasn't in the crash," Barker — who blames the pilots and defective equipment — tells E! News. "You know, I wouldn't have third degree burns all over my body or be prohibited to do certain things. I can't go swimming, I can't do some of the things that normal people can do. I didn't ask for that to happen." Asked whether he thinks he will win the suit, he says, "I don't know, I just think positive. I mean, I think so. If something goes wrong that's not supposed to go wrong or you fall victim of it," he adds, "I think you should be compensated."
Travis is right. I wouldn’t sue in this case because I was aware that planes sometimes crash (I read about it in "No Fucking Shit Digest") and that’s a risk you take when flying, but Travis can't go swimming for a few months, and so obviously the Goodyear tire company needs to pay up. Not just because they're the only ones involved with any real money, but because they didn’t invent enchanted tires filled with GummiBeary juice so the plane could just bounce around instead of crashing. You won't get away with this Goodyear!!!
It really is amazing that Travis Barker and DJ AM are alive today. Barker hit up Marmalade Café with his daughter Alabama yesterday, and for the first time we got a good look at his burns. They’re horrific, no doubt, but all things considered, he’s just incredibly lucky. His burns are a lot like when I'm having sex with 5 supermodels, and the least attractive one wants to pleasure me with her mouth first. Do I hate that, should she wait to go last? Yes, of course, but then I remember that some people don’t get to have sex with any supermodels. Travis and I just try to stay grounded, you know.
Travis Barker turned to his Myspace page late Saturday night to speak out for the first time since the plane crash that killed four people, but somehow spared Barker and DJ AM. You can go here to read the whole thing, but here are a few excerpts…
"I want to give my deepest thanks to everyone who has helped deal with the current situation. First and foremost, Chris (Barker, his assistant) and Che (Still, his security guard) were my friends. I would give up anything to have them here with us today, healthy and happy. To call them my employees does them such a disservice, as they were so much more than that. Chris was my best friend before anything else, and I can never put into words how much he will be missed. Che was an amazing person as well, and I was honored to have him in my life. "I am simply amazed and will be forever grateful for all the support everyone has shown to Chris and Che's families. It's a testament to how many lives they touched in a positive way. "Like the doctors said from the beginning, its been a slow recovery process. I am coming up on the 7th of my surgeries Monday. Today I finally was able to move all my fingers on my right hand. 'I got to see AM the other day. Seeing him after he was discharged was an inspiration. I saw just how awesome the doctors' work here is, and got to see how well he is doing. I am so happy to see him doing well, and we are both so lucky and grateful that we are alive today.
The pictures below (from splash) are AM on September 30th, at the memorial service for Baker. It was his first public appearance after the crash, and his burns are still clearly visible under his collar. Mourners were asked to wear green, if you were wondering. I think I would have a hard time wearing anything but black. Unless it was funeral for Sean Penn, in which case I would wear a cheerleading outfit.
WOLO-TV in Columbia South Carolina has video today from the dash-cam of a police car outside the fiery plane crash that claimed four lives, but somehow spared Blink 182 drummer Travis barker and DJ AM. They also play a 911 call and you can hear Barker, who suffered burns on his torso, pleading for help. The inappropriately named Anderson Burns and sassy junior reporter Robin Hinson introduce the story, then Robin sarcastically explains that a police offer is "springing into action", even though he’s sitting perfectly still, then heroically walking in the wrong direction, slowly.
