Madonna told Sirius radio in an interview on Wednesday that she is modeling her life on leaders like Martin Luther King, Gandhi and Jesus Christ. This despite the fact that Madonna was harshly criticized during her last tour for a set piece that placed her on a cross that mimicked the crucifixion of Jesus while showing videos of orphans with AIDS in Africa. Madonna says:
"For me we all need to be Jesus in our time. Jesus’ message was to love your neighbor as yourself, and these are people in need. I hope that people got that message … Of course some people thought 'Oh, she's just being controversial, she's just getting on a cross and trying to piss people off,' but that wasn't my intention at all … I want to be like Gandhi and Martin Luther King and John Lennon – but I want to stay alive.”
You and Madonna now probably agree that shes an amazing woman, as all the similarities between Madonna and Martin Luther King snap into focus. And heres an eerie Gandhi/Madonna comparison - Gandhi lived his life as a manual laborer, and when he died his only possessions in the world were two pieces of loin cloth (that he made himself), a book, a bowl, a spoon, his reading glasses and a pair of sandals. He believed that the absence of material riches in his life made him truly free. Similarly, Madonna lives in a 25 million dollar 18th century English mansion, where she recently installed a three-day horse jumping course for her prize winning stable and forced local government to abandon plans to build a trial for hikers because it came within 100 yards of her estate.
