King Kong is racist

Several columns are out today that are calling the movie King Kong racist. Movie reviewer David Edelstein, writing in Slate.com, says:

“the implicit racism of ‘King Kong’ – the implication that Kong stands for the black man brought in chains from a dark island (full of murderous primitive pagans) and with a penchant for skinny white blondes.”

And James Pinkerton in Newsday writes,

“Any movie that features white people sailing off to the Third World to capture a giant ape and carry it back to the West for exploitation is going to be seen as a metaphor for colonialism and racism.”

Holy Shit! Did that dude just compare black people to giant apes. I don’t wanna start some heavy dialogue here, but I’m almost positive that writing a column that assumes black people and monkeys are interchangeable is bad form. I’m against hate crimes per se, but if any black people wanted to beat the shit out of David Pinkerton, remember to punch with the base of you palm, that way you get the strength of your forearm behind it. Much more effective than a fist.

Update – Not only is King Kong racist, but now National Geographic is saying its not even factually accurate. They claim that there are no dinosaur islands. Jesus Christ, this entire movie is a sham!
