That question in the headline is rhetorical, by the way. Because I don’t know what the answer is. E! says that police in London haven’t ruled it out, but as of today there’s still no clear cause of death. One thing that probably didn’t help was that she was living in filth…
“It looked like a bomb site,” says an eyewitness observer inside Winehouse’s apartment. “She really appears to have lived out her final days and hours in squalor and misery.”
Gosh what a surprise. No one could have guessed that. Just goes to show that you can’t judge a book by it’s cover.
In other news, a private funeral was held for her in London today, but there was no burial because she was cremated early this morning. Which seems risky. She was so saturated in chemicals I’m amazed she didn’t explode. The LA Times says…
The Jewish service was led by a rabbi and included prayers in English and Hebrew and reminiscences from Mitch Winehouse, Amy’s father, who ended his eulogy with the words, “Goodnight, my angel, sleep tight. Mummy and Daddy love you ever so much.”
Mitch Winehouse “told some great stories from childhood about how headstrong she was, and clearly the family and friends recognized the stories and laughed along,” family spokesman Chris Goodman said. “He stressed so many times she was happier now than she had ever been and he spoke about her boyfriend and paid tribute to a lot of people in her life.”
Aww, that’s really touching. I bet those stories were terrific. An even better story would have been one about him forcing his daughter into rehab and locking the door behind her since the entire fucking world knew she was killing herself and he did nothing. What a piece of shit this guy is. There has to be some super old English law still on the books that says we can cremate him too. Someone should look into that.
