Orange Is the New Black Writer Suddenly Realizes She’s a Lesbian

There’s something convenient about being a female writer for Orange is the New Black and discovering you’ve been a lesbian all along. Ditching your husband and getting engaged to one of the lesbian actresses on the show even more convenient. That’s hard news to break. Look into his eyes and make him admit he knew you were a lesbian all along. He didn’t. But if he’s truly a sucker, he’ll say he did.

Lauren Morelli claims she realized she was gay when she wrote and watched the filming of Taylor Schilling and Laura Prepon’s lesbian relationship on the the show.

I realized I was gay in fall 2012, one of my first days on the set. It wasn’t so much one thing, but the sum of many small details: how uncomfortable I felt around groups of lesbians or how I considered myself (shrug) a “not very sexual person.” When considered alone, these seemed like little quirks that made me me. Wanting to read a book instead of have sex is a perfectly reasonable preference to have, right?

Ang Lee made it through Brokeback and he still likes chicks. Go figure. Morelli made it one year past a blowout wedding to a male writer in Hollywood. It’s probably impolite to mention Morelli fashioned her look after Taylor Schilling’s character as well. That would imply something more than just a latter day sexual orientation awakening. More like crazy. Good luck, you two. I bet you didn’t have outlandishly smiling photos like that from your straight wedding.
