DJ AM was laid to rest yesterday at Hillside Memorial Park in Los Angeles. A small private funeral service was held for close friends and family, with Travis Barker the only celebrity on hand. There was someone I thought was Scott Caan but now I can’t tell. I like to call him “Not Caan”.
I didn’t see any pictures of Nicole Richie, who dated AM for two years and they were even engaged before breaking up in 2006. But just because she wasn’t pictured doesn’t mean she wasn’t there. Wait, no. Actually that’s exactly what it means. That’s what pictures do. They chronicle events and record images during those events. So despite this story in the Enquirer, she can’t be too broken up.
(She) took the news of his death so hard that her pals feared she was going into premature labor … her emotional reaction after he died made Joel wonder if Nicole had been hiding deep feelings for Adam, said a source.
“It ended up in a big fight, with Joel demanding, ‘Were you still in love with him?’
“She broke down, cried uncontrollably and thought that she was having contractions,” said the source. “She was devastated to think that Adam’s life came to such a terrible end after his years struggling to stay sober.”
Or maybe she was crying out of guilt because she did it. We should probably arrest and execute her just in case. If later on we find out she didn’t do it, hey, no harm done. She sucked anyway so who cares.

Kat Von D did this tattoo of DJ AM for some dude as a tribute and of course the dude who got it put it on twitter because every thing must be twittered and ‘pix or it didn’t happen’. I don’t know how people survived before this. It had to be sheer pandemonium when you could only guess what your girlfriends sister thought of her salad. Back on point, hopefully it’s just the swelling but AM sort of looks like he’s surrounded by flames and his face covered in soot. I think Kat drew the devil, or at the very least AM in hell. Lets hope this guy isn’t doing the eulogy.
The death of DJ AM is unofficially being considered an overdose, not a suicide, but let’s dogpile onto the sadness because the reason he was taking so many drugs was because he became addicted to the anti-anxiety medicine Xanax, and this led to a relapse into other drugs. Xanax was prescribed to him because he had to fly all over the world for his job, and he developed a near crippling anxiety over flying after he was almost burned alive in a plane crash last September. Seems reasonable.
AM, a recovering addict, developed a dependency to Xanax and other benzodiazepines (a group of drugs used to treat anxiety) as a direct result of the plane crash a year ago … doctors began prescribing Xanax and other anti-anxiety medications to relieve his fear, but the benzos triggered a relapse into addiction. We’re told benzos are particularly dicey for recovering addicts.
DJ AM’s relapse was “recent” — he was not abusing for a prolonged period of time before his death.
We’re also told the OD had “absolutely nothing to do with his recent breakup.”
Our sources say the evidence strongly indicates cause of death will be a combination of crack cocaine and benzos.
Last year AM talked to Glamour magazine about his profound drug and food addictions that lasted from his teens to his mid 20’s. His depression led to suicide attempts and before gastric bypass surgery in 2003, he weighed 324 pounds. That interview was in January of 2008, and at the time it had been nine and a half years since he’d done drugs or had a drink. 9 months later he was in the plane crash, less than two years later he was dead of a drug overdose.
I’d like to hear what Kelly Preston and Jenna Elfman have to say about this. Why do people waste time with so called “medicine” when Scientology can fix you permanently?
Adam Goldstein, more commonly known as DJ AM, was found dead this afternoon in New York City from an apparent drug overdose. He was 36-years-old. Here’s a rough time line of the events so far:
- at around 5pm, a male friend who hadn’t been able to reach him went to AMs apartment.
- when the friend arrived, AM could be seen lying motionless on the floor.
- 911 was called at 5:23pm.
- the New York City Fire Department arrived within minutes and broke down AMs door.
- drug paraphernalia, including pipes used for smoking illegal drugs, were found around the body.
- he was pronounced dead on the scene.
Radar Online is reporting that AM was having a hard time getting off pain medication that he began taking after his near-fatal plane crash this time last year. Although maybe more telling is that he was friends with Mary Kate Olsen. Just like Heath Ledger. That little goblin might be the angel of death.
On September 20th, DJ AM, Blink 182 drummer Travis Barker and four others were in a Learjet that crashed shortly after takeoff, killing all but AM and Barker. On February 12th, Continental flight 3407 crashed on its way from New Jersey to Buffalo, killing all 49 people on board and one person on the ground. Oh hey guess what.
DJ AM, real name Adam Goldberg, was booked on the (Continental) flight but canceled and drove instead, after having a bad feeling about the flight. AM says his flying days are over, and from now on only gigs that he can drive to will be on his schedule.
I want to mention that his miraculous survival got compared to Final Destination on Tyler (here), because it's clear now that Death is out to get him. Am I a powerful psychic, using his guides in the spirit world to help those who need it here? It would seem I am, my friends. It would seem I am.
DEATH CHEATING UPDATE - or maybe not.

DJ AM was out yesterday grabbing some coffee and looking pretty normal considering he was almost burned alive 10 days ago. The patch shaved into his head for a skin graft and the burns on his arm are the only real signs that he survived a plane crash that took four lives. Still, he needs to be careful. If "Final Destination" taught me anything, and I like to think it did, it’s that Death Doesn’t Take No For An Answer. If I were him I would avoid roller coasters and conveyor belts that lead to some kind of shredder.
