Matt Damon Calls for Gun Ban

July 7, 2016 | celebrity | Lex Jurgen | 0 Comments

During an interview in Sydney, Matt Damon mentioned how he wished the U.S. could have super strict gun control laws as they do in Australia. This was fairly shocking to people who’ve never heard ninety-nine percent of actors and celebrities speak before.

“You guys did it here in one fell swoop and I wish that could happen in my country, but it’s such a personal issue for people that we cannot talk about it sensibly. We just can’t. People get so emotional that even when you make a suggestion about not selling AK47s to people on terror watch lists, that’s a non-starter. Obviously mass shootings aren’t going to do it. There have been so many of them at this point. Sandy Hook, when those children were murdered, if that didn’t do it, you know, I just don’t know. Maybe we just need to evolve further before we can have that conversation, I don’t know.”

Damon was in Australia promoting Bourne 5: Quick Cut Stunt Work Comes Alive. Gun rights advocates moved into tizzy mode for the hypocrisy of Damon making a shit ton of money portraying a small arms toting bad ass in so many movies yet appealing for sweeping gun control measures offscreen. Many called for him to give back all the dough he’s made in any film where he’s shot people or glamorized weapons. A request nearly as irrational as proposing sweeping gun control in a national firmly grounded in the 2nd Amendment.

Comparing an actor’s popcorn movie roles to his personal political ethos is a moronic slippery slope that would allow nobody to ever act again. Rich actors have been blindly espousing progressive political agendas since the dawn of the profession. Just as every ballplayer notes that playing one game at a time seems wise and every politician affirms that he will do what’s best for the people. Reasoned people ignore reflexive archetypal comments. The guy who runs Chevron can attend a clean air rally with a straight face. We all have day jobs. The world still needs gas. Not so much more short action heroes.
